More About KATELYN

Where did you grow up?

I’m originally from the Napa Valley, although San Diego has always felt more like home to me. Napa is expansive and beautiful, but there wasn’t very much to do there as a kid. Once I turned 21 and returned to get the full “Napa Valley experience,” I did finally begin to fall in love with it. The food, wine, and gorgeous landscape…what’s not to love? I was just too young to enjoy it for all that it was.

How did you get into executive search?

My father has been in the executive search industry my entire life. I grew up listening to him on the phone speaking to candidates and clients all over the world. Being a youngster and not understanding what a “headhunter” was, I thought he was in the CIA for the longest time. I’ve always looked up to him, but especially now as I see that he built his entire search career on principles and integrity. You could hear the respect and admiration people had for him through the other side of the phone. They trusted him. Clients trusted his opinion, and candidates trusted him with their future. He is the reason I got into this industry, and I hope to earn half the reputation in this industry that he has.

Why do you love executive search?

As my colleagues would eagerly agree: The people. I’ve always had an ability to connect with others. My Grandma Dori would sit next to anyone on an airplane and get their entire life story. She drew things out of people that they would not share with some of their closest friends. I was lucky enough to be blessed with that trait as well. It’s something that I don’t only enjoy doing, it’s my passion.

What would you do if you weren't in executive search?

I have two huge passions in my life: dance and yoga. I danced for 17 years, both competitively and recreationally. When I’m dancing, it’s when I feel I’m my truest self. If I wasn’t in executive search, I would start my own studio. But there’s also yoga. I am certified as a yoga sculpt instructor through Corepower Yoga. Yoga has the same fluid movements as dancing, but it focuses more on the mind/body connection. I taught classes for a period of time. Seeing my students grow and become stronger before my very eyes were some the most rewarding experiences of my life.

What do you do for fun?

When I’m not at yoga (a bit addicted really), I love traveling. I don’t do nearly enough of it, but it fires up my soul! The connections you make with people while you’re traveling are always enlightening. In fact, the people may be the best part. But there’s also all of the different cultures, customs, food, dress, landscapes, etc. I just love expanding my view of the world and seeing all that it has to offer. I try to schedule smaller local trips to break up my routine, but I like to plan and dream about longer trips. My boyfriend’s favorite place in the world is Indonesia, and that is the next stop on my bucket list. Especially since Bali, Indonesia is one of the best places on the planet to study yoga!
